Uploading hand-written files to your Digital Dropbox using your iPhone/iPod to create PDF files:
Students often benefit from handwritten exemplars of student or teacher work and the ability to upload them to your wiki is very important. Creating PDF files is often the most effective file type for sharing such information. Working with a scanner can often take time and is not very convenient. For this reason I began the search for an Apple iPod/iPhone app that would allow me easily and quickly make PDF files. After several failures I finally came across an application called Scanner Pro that not only allows for PDF files to be easily created from simple images, but also works seamlessly with Digital Dropbox so that your files are now saved right where you want them.
The Scanner Pro program is very user friendly, but below I will provide pictures to walk you through the process of uploading a file. I'll complete the same upload on my iPhone as you read through so that you can get an idea of how long it takes, where it goes, and what steps need to be taken. If you try it out on your own, it should be pretty easy to navigate on your own - just take 15-20 minutes to figure it out and you'll be set.
Scanner Pro allows for:
Upload to Dropbox, iDisc/WebDAV, Evernote, and Google Docs
Scan in several documents, multiple pages, etc in minutes
Convenience
Scanning from home
First, download and install the Scanner Pro application from the App Store (or just steal it from Cydia)
Locate the file and open:
Next, select how you would like to make your file (from existing photo on your phone, or take new photos):
If you chose to take photos with the program, you will proceed as follows:
Place image on a flat surface with plenty of light and center on your screen:
Take the picture by clicking the camera, then take another photo of the next page or select done:
Now you will be asked to select borders, I generally select as long as the camera was aligned properly, do so for each page:
Select "process" and you will see the documents "scanned"
You will then see all pages in one pane.
I generally like to name it before converting to PDF and uploading to Dropbox, so I select "back" and the program will prompt for you to create a file name:
You will then see all the files you have created in one pane. I like to delete them once I have uploaded to Dropbox so I don't have clutter and take up space on my phone.
Select the file you want to upload, in this case, "Momentum Notes MS"
I like to upload it to Dropbox so that it's on all my computers, and I also have access to it on my phone. Google docs works well if you like that. You will need to tell the Scanner Pro App where you would like the file to be uploaded to.
I have now located the folder where I would like to upload the file, simply select "upload" to complete
It should now be in your folder on any computers that have been linked to your Dropbox. It will tell you that the file has been uploaded successfully.
In order to view on your iPhone, simply locate the Dropbox App (available free at the iTunes store) and find the folder:
